NextQuest

What is NextQuest?

NextQuest is a public game backlog where viewers suggest and vote, and streamers decide what to play.

NextQuest is a gaming backlog tool for live streamers. A streamer keeps a public board of games. Viewers suggest games for it and vote on the ones already there. The streamer decides what goes on the board and what to play.

Who uses it

  • Streamers own a board. They arrange it, choose who may suggest and vote, and review suggestions in an inbox.
  • Viewers sign in with Twitch, suggest games, and vote. Every Twitch login gets a board on first sign-in, so the two roles are not separate accounts. One person can be a viewer on one board and a streamer on their own.

The main pieces

  • Board. The streamer's public page at /user/{name}. It shows lanes, and each lane holds up to three sections. See Boards, lanes and sections.
  • Suggestion. A viewer's proposal of a game for one board. It waits in that board's inbox until the streamer decides. See Suggesting a game.
  • Vote. An up or down vote on a game that is already on a board. The board shows the net total. See Voting.

How the loop works

  1. A viewer opens a streamer's board, signs in with Twitch, and picks Suggest a game.
  2. The suggestion lands in the streamer's inbox. If other viewers suggest the same game to the same board, they join the same suggestion.
  3. The streamer accepts or passes on it. An accepted game appears in the board's intake section. Everyone who suggested it gets an automatic upvote.
  4. Viewers vote on games in sections that have voting switched on. The streamer moves games across lanes as they play them.
  5. Viewers follow the progress on the board. In the last lane, a section's count badge is green, red, or grey to show the outcome the streamer set for it.

Viewers can suggest a game the streamer passed on again once the streamer's re-suggest wait is over. See Suggesting a game › Passed on games.

What NextQuest is not

  • It is not a chat bot. The Twitch chat bot is an optional add-on for streamers. See Twitch bot.
  • It does not stream, host, or play games. It only tracks what to play.
  • It does not let viewers change a board. Viewers suggest and vote. Only the streamer edits the board.
  • It is not a game store or review site. Game facts come from a local copy of IGDB data. See Game and company pages.
