Finding boards

How to find a streamer's board from the home page, search, or a direct link, and what the board 404 messages mean.

You can open a board in three ways: from the home page, from search, or from a link the streamer shares. You do not need an account to look.

The home page

The home page shows five blocks. A block disappears when it has nothing to show, except Trending games, which shows a placeholder.

Block What it shows Size
Trending Games with the highest net votes over the last 7 days, across all public boards. Tiles read #1 this week, #2 this week, and so on. Top 3
Fresh releases Popular games released in the last 30 days, newest first. Up to 5
Coming up Popular games releasing in the next 60 days, soonest first. A game with no date shows Date TBD. Up to 5
All-time popular Games with the highest all-time net votes on public boards. Each row shows the rating and how many boards hold the game. Up to 6
Active streamers Streamers whose public boards had the most recent votes or new games. Boards with no games are left out. Up to 12

The LIVE badge on an active streamer comes from a best-effort Twitch check. If Twitch cannot be reached, no one shows as live, even if they are.

Fresh releases and Coming up leave out bundles, packs, and games IGDB tags with the Erotic theme. Those games can still appear in search and on their own pages.

The search box in the header covers three kinds of results. Pick a tab: Games, Companies, or Streamers.

  • Type 2 to 100 characters. Shorter queries show a prompt and do not search. Results appear as you type.
  • Each tab shows up to 10 results. Select a result to see details on the right, and use its buttons: Game page, Company page, or View board.
  • You can run up to 30 searches per minute. Queries under 2 characters do not count.
  • If search fails, you see Search is down. Try again in a moment.
  • If nothing matches, you see No matches. Check the spelling.

Streamers tab

This tab lists NextQuest streamers first. They have an On NextQuest badge, and View board opens their board. NextQuest matches on display name.

If there is room left under the 10 results, it adds Twitch channels that match the name. Channels without a NextQuest account show Not on NextQuest and a Visit on Twitch button. If Twitch is unavailable, you get the NextQuest streamers only and a note says so. If Twitch is down and no NextQuest streamer matches, you see the search error.

Signed in, each NextQuest streamer has a heart. Select it to add them to your favourites. See Favourite streamers.

A streamer's public board lives at /user/{name}. For example, nextquest.app/user/waldoandfriends.

  • {name} is the streamer's Twitch login or display name. It is not case sensitive.
  • Board names and board slugs do not work in the link.
  • If a streamer changed their Twitch login, the old link redirects to the new one.
  • A streamer has one public board at a time. It shows an intro text, the board name, and Open for suggestions when the board takes suggestions.
  • Each section lists its games, highest net votes first. Long sections show the first games, then Show N more. The streamer chooses how many show before that.
  • You can open a board page up to 60 times per minute.

When a board does not open

A board link that does not open shows one of three messages. The page returns a 404 in each case.

Message What it means What to do
Board is private or inactive The streamer has a NextQuest account but no active public board. Check the link, or ask the streamer to open their board.
isn't on NextQuest yet The name matches a real Twitch channel with no NextQuest account. Select Visit on Twitch, or tell the streamer about NextQuest.
We couldn't find that streamer No account or Twitch channel matches, or NextQuest could not reach Twitch to check. Check the spelling, or try search.

If you open pages too fast, NextQuest shows a short Slow down there message. Wait a minute and try again. See Limits and defaults.
