FAQ

Short answers for viewers and streamers about suggesting, voting, boards, the bot, notifications and the API.

Short answers, with links to the full pages. For broken things, see Troubleshooting.

General

What is NextQuest?

NextQuest is a backlog tool for live streamers. Viewers suggest and vote on games, and the streamer runs a public board of what to play next. See For viewers and For streamers.

Do I need an account?

You need to sign in with Twitch to suggest or vote. Any Twitch login also gets a board on first sign-in. Browsing public boards needs no account. See Sign in with Twitch.

What is the closed beta?

Right now everyone can sign in, vote and suggest. Only hand-picked streamers can manage boards. If you open the dashboard and land on a beta page instead, you are not on the list yet. See Closed beta.

Where do I report a problem?

Email hello@nextquest.app. The Contact page lists what to include.

For viewers

How do I suggest a game?

Open a streamer's board, find the game, and use the suggest action on its page. The suggestion goes to the streamer's inbox. See Suggesting a game.

Why was my suggestion refused?

The message tells you why. The most common reasons are a followers-only or subs-only board, your limit of pending suggestions, a blacklisted game, or a game rejected recently. The full list is in Troubleshooting › you-cannot-suggest-or-vote.

How many suggestions can I have at once?

Each streamer sets a limit for viewers, followers and subscribers. Pending suggestions count. When the streamer accepts or rejects one, you get a slot back.

Can I vote more than once on a game?

No. You get one vote per game: up or down. Pressing the same vote again removes it. Pressing the other vote switches it. See Voting.

Is there a limit to how fast I can suggest or vote?

Yes. You can suggest 5 times a minute, vote 20 times a minute and search 30 times a minute. See Limits and defaults.

Why can I not open a game card?

The card may be marked Unavailable. The game was removed from the catalogue. Votes already on it stay. See Game and company pages.

For streamers

What is a board, a lane and a section?

A board is your list of games. A lane runs across the board and holds up to 3 sections. A section is a stack of games, with its own visibility and voting settings. See Boards, lanes and sections.

What is the intake?

The intake is the section where new games land. Streamer additions and accepted suggestions both go there. A board without an intake cannot take suggestions. See Suggestions inbox.

What does Reject do?

It sends the suggestion back as "not now" for that board. Viewers can suggest it again after your re-suggest wait. The blacklist is stronger. Nobody can suggest a blacklisted game to any of your boards.

How do I control who can suggest or vote?

Open Dashboard > Settings. Who can suggest and Who can vote accept everyone, followers or subscribers. NextQuest checks follow and sub status live with Twitch. See Audience permissions.

How do I set up the chat bot?

Open Dashboard > Bot, turn on Active and select Save. The bot posts one line when it connects. It then replies when it sees a viewer suggesting a game. See Twitch chat bot.

Does the bot post a link when it joins?

No. The first message has no link, so first-message link filters do not ban it. Your reply message can include {url} to link to your board.

Why did I get logged out on all my devices?

Signing out ends every session for your account. Regenerating your API key does too, except on the device where you clicked. Sign in again.

Notifications

How do I get push notifications?

Open the Notifications page and turn on Push notifications. Your browser asks for permission. On iPhone and iPad, add NextQuest to your Home Screen first. See Notifications and push.

How many devices can get push?

Up to 10. Adding another removes the oldest.

Why did I miss a push?

A muted section never pushes. A push also expires after 15 minutes if your device is offline. The notification stays listed on the site.

Developer API

What is the WebSocket API for?

It sends live events from your boards to your own tools, such as an overlay or streamer.bot. It is one-way. Tools listen and cannot change your board. See Developer API.

Where do I get an API key?

Open Dashboard > API and select Enable API. NextQuest shows the key once, the first time you enable. Lost it? Select Regenerate. See Authentication.

Why does my connection drop after 90 seconds?

The server drops clients that send no data for 90 seconds. Send a text frame every 25 to 30 seconds. See WebSocket connection.

Why do I get one event for a vote switch?

Switching a vote sends vote.cast with the new value. Only removing a vote sends vote.retracted. See Event reference.
