Glossary
Plain definitions of the terms NextQuest uses for boards, suggestions, votes, notifications and the catalogue.
The terms below appear across the docs and in the app. They are listed alphabetically.
Action button
The floating button on game pages and public boards. It opens a short list of actions for that page. An action that is not available yet stays in the list but is greyed out, and its label gives the reason, for example Closed beta only.
Audience
The group of people a streamer allows to suggest or to vote: Everyone, Followers only, or Subs only. The streamer sets one audience for suggestions and one for votes. NextQuest checks follower and subscriber status on Twitch. See Audience and permissions.
Blacklist
A streamer's list of games viewers can never suggest, on any of that streamer's boards. A streamer adds games to it from the suggestions inbox. A separate switch, Block adult games, also refuses games IGDB tags as Erotic. The blacklist does not stop the streamer from adding a game to a board themselves. See Blacklist.
Board
A streamer's backlog of games, made of lanes and sections. Viewers see it on the streamer's public page. A streamer can have more than one board. Only the active board has the public page. See Boards, lanes and sections.
Catalogue
NextQuest's own full copy of IGDB game and company records. Game pages, company pages, search, and the home page blocks all read from it. It holds every game and company, whether or not anyone has looked at it. See Game and company pages.
Closed beta
The current phase. Everyone can sign in, vote, and suggest. Only invited streamers can manage boards. It ends when board management opens to everyone. See Closed beta.
Favourite
A private bookmark a viewer keeps of a streamer on NextQuest. It lets the viewer suggest a game to that streamer from the game page, and shows the game page's On your favourites' boards row. Streamers never see who favourited them. See Favourite streamers.
Intake
The section of a board where new games land. Games a streamer adds and suggestions a streamer accepts both go there. A board has one intake section. A board without one does not take suggestions.
Now playing section
The section of a board that holds the game a streamer is playing right now. A board has one, and it carries a Now playing badge. When a game moves into it, viewers who suggested that game get a started playing notification. See Boards, lanes and sections.
Lane
A vertical strip on a board that holds one or more sections stacked on top of each other. A lane holds at most three sections. Lanes run left to right.
Mute
A per-account setting for a notification tab. Notifications in a muted tab still arrive and stay listed, but they are marked as read, make no sound, and send no push notification. See Notifications.
Net votes
The number of up votes minus the number of down votes on a game. It shows as +3, -2, or 0. It is the only vote figure the public sees. See Voting.
Notification
A saved message about something that happened, such as a streamer accepting your suggestion. It has a time and a read status. The bell menu in the header lists them in three tabs: Suggestions, Board, and NextQuest (news from the team). Any account can have items in all three tabs.
Outcome
The result a section records for games in the last lane: Positive, Neutral, or Negative. On the public board, a last-lane section's count badge is green, grey, or red to match. A game placed in a section with an outcome keeps that outcome even if the streamer edits the section later.
Public board
The streamer's active board. It lives at /user/{name} and appears on the home page. See Your public board.
Push device
One browser on one device set up to receive push notifications. An account can have up to 10. Logging out removes the push device of that browser only.
Rejection (passed on)
A streamer's "not now" on a suggestion. It applies to that board only. Viewers who suggested the game are told the streamer passed on it. The game can be suggested again once the streamer's re-suggest wait is over. See Passed on games.
Section
A named stack inside a lane that holds games. Each section has its own switches for whether the public sees it and whether viewers can vote in it.
Streamer
An account that owns a board. Every Twitch sign-in creates an account with a board, so there is no separate streamer account type. Only invited streamers can manage boards during the closed beta.
Suggestion
A viewer's proposal of a game for one board. It waits in that board's inbox. A board holds one suggestion per game, and several viewers can back the same suggestion. See Suggesting a game.
Terminal lane
The last lane on a board, the one furthest to the right. Games placed in its sections are done. Sections in this lane carry an outcome.
Unavailable (tombstone)
A game removed from the catalogue. On a board, the card stays with its votes and the marker Unavailable, but no one can open it, vote on it, or suggest it. The record behind it is called a tombstone. See Unavailable games.
Viewer
Someone who suggests and votes on a streamer's board. Anyone signed in with Twitch can be a viewer. One account can be a viewer on other boards and a streamer on its own.
