Suggesting a game

How to suggest a game to a streamer's board, the limits that apply, and what every refusal message means.

A suggestion is your proposal of a game for one streamer's board. It goes to that streamer's inbox. The streamer accepts it or passes on it. You suggest from a streamer's board, or from a game page to a streamer you favourited.

How to suggest

  1. Sign in with Twitch. See Sign in with Twitch.
  2. Open the streamer's board. See Finding boards.
  3. Select Suggest a game. The search panel opens.
  4. Search for the game. Type at least 2 characters.
  5. Select the game in the results and select Suggest.

You see Suggestion sent and a short message that the streamer will review it.

If you are signed out, the button reads Log in to suggest a game. If the streamer limits suggestions or has closed them, the button is greyed out. Hover or focus it to read the reason. When there is no specific reason, it reads Suggestions are closed.

Tip

You can also suggest from a game page, to any streamer you favourited. See Favourite streamers › Suggest a game from its page.

One suggestion per game per board

Each board holds one suggestion per game. If another viewer already suggested the same game and the streamer has not decided yet, your suggestion joins theirs. The streamer sees one entry for the game, with everyone who suggested it. Viewers do not see who else suggested it.

If you suggest a game you already suggested, you get You've already suggested this game.

Who can suggest

The streamer chooses who can suggest on their board:

  • Everyone
  • Followers only
  • Subs only

NextQuest checks your follower and subscriber status on Twitch when you suggest. See Sign in with Twitch › Why follower and subscriber checks matter. For the streamer's side, see Audience and permissions.

Pending suggestion slots

The streamer also limits how many suggestions you can have waiting at once. These are your slots.

Your status on the streamer's channel Default slots
Viewer 3
Follower 5
Subscriber 10
  • A streamer can set each number anywhere from 0 to 100.
  • A suggestion takes a slot while it is pending. The slot frees up when the streamer accepts it or passes on it.
  • Slots count your pending suggestions across all of that streamer's boards, not per board.
  • If you both follow and subscribe, the subscriber number applies.
  • Streamers have no limit on their own board.

Refusal messages

If a suggestion does not go through, you see one of these messages. Messages appear in a red box under the search panel.

Passed on games

When a streamer passes on a suggestion, it is a "not now" for that board only. You and everyone else who suggested the game get a notification in the bell menu under Suggestions, and the slot frees up.

You can suggest the game to that board again after the streamer's re-suggest wait. The default is 0 days, which means right away. A streamer can set it from 0 to 365 days. Until the wait ends, you see the passed on recently message with the date you can try again. The date counts from the day the streamer passed on it.

A new suggestion after the wait starts a new round. Earlier suggesters are not added to it. The streamer still sees how many times the game was passed on before.

A streamer can also blacklist a game. Blacklisted games cannot be suggested to any of that streamer's boards. See Blacklist.

When a suggestion is accepted

The game appears in the board's intake section. Everyone who suggested it gets an automatic upvote on it. They also get an accepted notification under Suggestions in the bell menu. See Voting › Accepted suggestions.

You get more notifications as the game moves along. One says the streamer started playing it, which happens when the game moves into their now playing section. Another says the streamer is done with it, when it reaches the last lane. A third says the streamer removed it. Moves into other sections send nothing.

You set up push notifications on the dashboard Notifications page. Only beta streamers can open it for now. See Notifications.

Limits

  • You can suggest 5 times per minute.
  • Search takes 30 requests per minute.

See Limits and defaults for every limit.
